Equity Research Associate (Internet Sector)

Overview
We are seeking an Equity Research Associate to join our Internet research team, which is led by two senior analysts with over 45 years of combined research experience. The team works hard, takes great pride in doing thoughtful work on behalf of our clients, and has a strong track record of developing associates for career advancement. This role will include work on Internet companies like Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Netflix, Uber, Spotify, Zillow, Etsy, Wayfair, etc.

This position will be based in midtown Manhattan on a hybrid schedule (WFH Mondays & Fridays).

Essential Job Functions

  1. Fundamental research: The associate will be expected to track coverage of company product updates, strategies, catalysts, and competitors, as well as relevant Internet industry events and trends. He/she will constantly be collecting and considering data points – blogs, podcasts, trade journals, etc. will all contribute to the mosaic of information that the team assembles. The candidate will have a thorough and rigorous analytical process and be comfortable with the distillation of large volumes of information.
  2. Modeling and writing: The associate will be responsible for summarizing key news items and earnings calls, and for fully and independently updating the models. Longer-term projects will include preparation of launch reports, including a large portion of the analysis and model build out.
  3. Communication: Upon passing the regulatory tests (Series 7, 63, 86/87), the associate will be expected to communicate key aspects of our companies under research to our salesforce and clients.


Required Qualifications

  • Passionate about stocks and the financial markets.
  • Four-year bachelor's degree, advanced degrees will be considered.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Superior quantitative, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, proactive, and highly self-motivated, organized, and responsive.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and be extraordinarily detail oriented.
Preferred Qualifications (Not required)
  • One to two years' experience in equity research, investment banking, or finance, although we encourage qualified candidates with other backgrounds to apply.
  • Series 7, 63, 86, 87 will be required soon after starting the position, but are not prerequisites for consideration.
  • Completion of or progress towards a CFA is a plus, but not required.

Temporary Junior Risk Analyst

Overview
Canaccord Genuity LLC is looking for a Risk Analyst, Intern to join its US Risk Management team in New York City.  The US Risk Management team closely monitors the Sales and Trading division of the firm with a focus on the trading activities of the US trading desks that include Emerging Market Fixed Income, International Equities, Options, Futures, and US Equities desks. The Risk Management team’s top priority is to ensure that the trading activity and desks’ inventories comply with the firm’s risk framework and policies.

The incumbent will report to the VP, US Risk Management of Canaccord Genuity LLC and will be mainly responsible for conducting counterparty risk assessment on new and existing clients across all US trading desks, but may also assist in performing the daily risk reporting of various US trading desks’ activity, increasing the efficiency of the ERM function via automated solutions, supporting ERM in the engagement of new risk initiatives, as well as working on ad hoc projects as required.  The role will grant the opportunity to take on a wide scope of responsibilities, work closely with stakeholders on various trading desks, and learn about the scope of the firm’s expanding US brokerage business and how it fits into the global operations of the firm as a whole.

The ideal candidate must be a motivated self-starter with excellent analytical & technical skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a complex workload.  As the role requires constant interaction with the firm’s various business units, trading desks, and geographies, it is critical that the candidate is able to clearly & concisely communicate complex issues.

Essential Job Functions

  • Review current and potential new trading counterparties to determine appropriate market access trading limits by engaging with internal teams and accessing regulatory websites (FINRA, SEC, etc.) and other publicly available sources to gather all required information necessary.
  • Assist in the analysis of equity and fixed income portfolios in terms of market, credit, interest rate, concentration, and liquidity risks and identify areas of risk mitigation using daily Excel reports.
  • Ensure the trading desks’ risk-taking is within the established risk limits by monitoring trading activity in real time on trading platforms; swiftly mitigate any breaches with heads of desks and traders.
Required Qualifications
  • Coursework relevant to finance, risk management, data engineering/analysis or other related disciplines or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Math or Engineering
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are critical
  • Intellectual curiosity, team player, a self-starter attitude, and the ability to function in a fast paced, dynamic work environment are crucial to be successful in the role
Preferred Qualifications (Not required)
  • Experience with Visual Basic (VBA) is a plus;
